Red plaid, then a red dress
I photographed this family of three in Roseville in September 2026. The first frames are on a red plaid blanket under a large tree at the edge of a pond, with reeds along the water and houses on the far bank. The parents are in sage green, and their baby is in a white shirt and grey trousers.
On the blanket, the mother lifts the baby up to her face for a kiss while the father watches. Later the two of them lie back on the plaid, and she holds the baby up over her and laughs, with the father’s head close beside hers.
Out on a paved path the sky is grey and full of cloud, with bare brown ground and rooftops past the dry grass. The mother lifts the baby high, and in another frame both parents stand with their backs to me as she raises the baby into the sky. By a wooden fence, with a large oak and golden grass behind, the father holds the baby overhead and grins up.
For the last part everyone is in red: a red shirt for him, a long red dress for her, and a red striped outfit for the baby. On a path under yellowing trees, the father throws one fist in the air with the baby in his other arm while the mother laughs with her hands out. The page ends with him holding the baby out along his arm as she holds onto him, laughing.
