Practical Details

Before the cap goes in the air

When in senior year should we shoot?
Most people reach out once the ceremony date is set, and earlier is better — graduation season books up fast. If you want cap-and-gown photos in hand before the ceremony, we plan backwards from that date. Ceremony weekend is also when the whole family is in town, which is the easy time to add an extended family session — 90 minutes, with room for the grandparents and the cousins.
How long is the session, and how many photos do I get?
Thirty minutes and 25 or more edited images for The Tassel. An hour and 60 or more for The Milestone. Ninety minutes and 100 or more for The Squad, which covers up to six graduates with group frames and individual ones for each of you. A short session isn't a thin one — half an hour is long enough to get the cap-and-gown frames and the ones where you're actually laughing.
What if my school has a yearbook deadline?
The Tassel's gallery lands within a week; The Milestone and The Squad take two. The turnaround is rarely the problem — the booking date is. Send me your school's submission deadline when you reach out and we'll work backwards from it. The Milestone includes announcement-ready crops, so you're not cropping them yourself at midnight.
What should I wear, and can I change outfits?
The Tassel is one outfit. The Milestone is up to two, usually the cap and gown plus something you'd actually wear on a Saturday. Bring the letterman jacket, the instrument, whatever says what these years were — and wear something you feel good in. A plainer look for job applications is a $100 headshot sitting, 30 minutes and five retouched frames.
Where do you shoot these?
Your campus, if it allows photography — Sierra College, Sac State, or your own high school's grounds. Or somewhere with nothing to do with school: the field you ran laps on, the coffee shop you studied in until closing. Anywhere in Roseville, Rocklin, Granite Bay, Lincoln, Folsom or Sacramento works, and I'll suggest a spot if nothing comes to mind.
Can my family be in the photos?
Yes. Bring whoever is coming to the ceremony — I'll get the ones with your parents, your grandparents and your siblings while everyone is dressed and in the same place. If you'd rather have a proper family session than a few frames squeezed into yours, family sessions run an hour and start at $350.

Want the whole family in a few frames while everyone is still home? Add a family session. For applications, LinkedIn or a first job, a headshot sitting is quicker and cheaper.
