Mostly off the ground
I photographed this family of three in Roseville in September 2026. The frames are set around a pond with reeds and willows along its edge. There is a field of dry grass, a paved path, an oak, and houses on the hill across the water. The sun is low and warm in most of them. You can see it in the long shadows on the path and in the light caught in the mother’s hair.
Their daughter is off the ground in a lot of these. Her parents swing her between them by the hands, her boots clear of the grass. She sits on her father’s shoulders with her hands clasped under his chin while he holds her legs. In one frame she is in the air above him with her hair flying, and he reaches up with his face turned toward hers.
Some frames are quieter. She and her father touch foreheads, both smiling with their eyes nearly shut. Under a willow, her mother holds her and watches her laugh into her fists. All three lean together against the trunk of an oak and look straight at the camera.
By the pond, her father holds her on his hip and kisses her mother, and she grins down the lens. The page ends with the three of them hand in hand, facing the water, both parents looking back over their shoulders.
